Yesterday’s farmers’ market haul. after i laid this out, i realized i forgot to buy avocados. i think we will manage 😊
my daughter mk will cook a lot of this haul. mk learned to cook literally before she could speak. (she waited a while to talk. i like to tell myself that, like einstein who first spoke at three years old, she waited until she had something important to say.) we lived in canada back then and during the winter, copped up inside, baked almost every day. my kids cook often because they eat often. cooking is a necessary life skill and mom can’t do everything. .
i’m working on a ranty post about zero waste and gender roles. eighty-nine percent of my followers on here are women. why is that? when people ask me that question—and i hear it often—i say i believe it’s due to the fact that women do the lion’s (lioness’?) share of the shopping, the cooking and the cleaning. did you happen to read the recent article on division of labor in the @nyt on may 4th? in “what ‘good’ dads get away with,” dr. darcy lockman says that “division of labor in the home is one of the most important equity issues of our time. yet at this rate it will be another 75 years before men do half the work.”
i know that you 11 percent male followers do a lot! but you’re in the minority. to tackle the challenges brought on by climate change—and the grassroots, zero-waste movement plays a role because it’s fundamentally about changing consumption—women could use some help. i hope to finish writing my rant later this week and will post the link then if you care to read it.

A place we truly love is the farmer’s market; there’s just something beautiful about supporting growers, buying fresh, and buying local. i am so glad we got to a couple yesterday, and i’m excited to see what we make with all of this goodness this week. ☀️⬆️👨🏼‍🌾
our reusable bags are always from @colonyco_usa (not sponsored); perfect for market finds. also, not pictured: a bouquet of roses and a few ice cream cones eaten along the way by little ones, because you have to treat yourself (thanks, @melissa_hartwig 💐), and life is all about balance. 🙌🏻🍦 #alwaysbuyyourselfflowers -
anyways- what is one thing you did this weekend that made you happy?! 😍😊⬇️ tell us below. ⬇️

Shwarma bowl on repeat

it was so delicious that jade requested it again. so here is round two. grilled boneless chicken thighs spiced with my shawarma rub. click save to keep this recipe for later.

shwarma spice blend
1 1/2 tbs cinnamon
1 tbs coriander
2 tsp cardamom
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tbs turmeric
3 tbs cumin
1 tbs smoked paprika
3 tsp ginger
1 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp coarse salt
1 tsp black pepper

season the chicken generously at least 2 hours before grilling. save leftover rub for another time. bring the chicken to room temperature. you can use b*****s instead of thighs if you prefer.

preheat grill. brush and oil the grill to clean.
turn the grill to medium heat. add the chicken and grill the thighs for 8 minutes. turn them over and grill for another 8 minutes. check the chicken is cooked through.

i also threw chunks of red pepper, tomatoes, zucchini and onions onto my @allclad griddle and threw them onto the grill while i cooked the chicken.

i served big chucks of these on a bed of romaine lettuce, with cumbers, tzatziki, hummus and some sumac and toasted pita on the side.

who's hungry? hope you are enjoying your weekend. and tag me if you make these x*x mm
