๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ— today i want to talk a little bit about calorie deficits and fat/weight loss and what's actually healthy.

i think most of us know by now that if you want to achieve weight loss, you have to be in a calorie deficit, i.e. eating less than the amount of energy you burn per day. this is absolutely true. but no matter what your goals are, the quality of the foods that you eat matter immensely.
_
and if your goal is f*t loss, achieving your goal in a healthy, sustainable way matters too.
_
going on extreme restrictive diets that limit calories rarely work. why? because of the way restriction makes you feel. you might feel hangry and thinking about food 24/7, tired, and depressed.
_
i truly feel that no matter your starting point, a steady and conservative approach to f*t loss is better than trying to lose too much very quickly, only to create unhealthy habits, such as skipping meals or not getting a well-rounded balance of macronutrients — carbs, fat, and protein.
_
making sure that you're eating healthy, balanced nutrition is key, even if you're trying for a calorie deficit. for example, one of my clients started her deficit on 200 calories less per day (1800 instead of 2000), the equivalent of 1 bag of potato chips. we started by tracking her nutritional intake to the point where she learned so much about food and portions that she now eats more intuitively without having to track anymore. she checked in with me a few weeks ago and lost 20 lbs while eating delicious, nutritious foods that make her body feel good!

i'm a strong believer in eating better, not necessarily less and often swapping more nutritious foods for less nutritious ones will keep you fulller longer, and feeling great!

if you want to lose weight for good you will have to work on a number of aspects of your life ๐Ÿ˜Œ starting with self love, mindset, mental health and finishing with stress management & sleep.

i’ve tried dieting & exercising, and ended up getting a binge eating disorder ๐Ÿ˜• so please please please don’t think about weight loss as just a change in your diet & exercise...remember that it has to be a complex of changes in different areas of your life ๐Ÿ˜Œ only in this case weight loss will be sustainable and you will not gain everything back ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ

Yet another great find! you should be meeting your carb macro with veggies! fruits as well but in extreme moderation. fruits are high in carbs and if overdone, can & will kick you out of ketosis ( especially the 7 & 8 net carb fruits listed above) if you’re finding that you are at a stall or not losing at all... take a look at your carb intake. what are you eating? make better choices! ๐Ÿ˜‰

i started out keeping it very simple- cut out sugar, sodas (even diet), breads, chips, rice and pastas. i stuck to simple recipes and made sure i had food prepped and ready to go so i didn’t go scavenging for food. i took baby steps guys. i didn’t dive right into keto because quite honestly i didn’t understand everything behind it so i needed to research more on it. i didn’t start out fasting๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ i let my body go into it naturally. my point: how do you start losing weight?- you just start taking baby steps to your goal. don’t wait until you have all the answers on what you’re suppose to do for this journey, you can figure all that out along the way. non of us knew everything we know now before we started. every person you follow for inspiration started at square one and were just as lost as you. the thing we all have in common is we just started one day and didn’t quit. we didn’t know everything about keto or whatever way of eating or exercise program got us to our goals. we learned it along the way. don’t think you need to know it all to get to the goal. just start. take it one day at a time and figure out the small stuff along the way. fuel yourself with research and try to understand what’s going on in your body๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ–คyou don’t need to know it all, all you need to know is that you want this and you aren’t going to quit this time! you got this๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ–ค

when in doubt, trust the quaker and not the leprechaun. i always recommend selecting oats over any dry cereal. of course, there is a huge variety of cereal and some are superior options to others but even the better ones typically do very little to satisfy your hunger and actually leave you hungrier. on the other hand, oats are pretty filling.

between these two, the calories per 27 grams is essentially the same. however, the oats have more protein, more fiber, less sugar, and only 1 listed ingredient compared to 16. if you find oats plain, try adding a scoop of protein or try making overnight oats. it’s a much better and way more filling option than any dry cereal out there. swipe left for a good post from @lewfitness showing a higher calorie and lower calorie overnight oats recipe.
